When people think about the Book of Revelation, they often feel overwhelmed or even intimidated. Pastor Greg Laurie sets out to change that. In his message, “Unlocking Revelation,” he reminds us that Revelation isn’t meant to scare us—it’s meant to prepare us. At its core, this final book of the Bible is not about the Antichrist, but about Jesus Christ. It’s a book of hope, clarity, and purpose for believers living in uncertain times.
The Password to Unlocking Revelation
Greg Laurie begins by comparing Revelation to a password-protected device. Many people feel locked out of understanding it, but there’s a “golden key” that unlocks it—Revelation 1:19:
“Write the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will take place after this.”
This verse outlines the three major sections of the book:
- The Past: What John saw (chapter 1)
- The Present: The state of the churches (chapters 2–3)
- The Future: What happens after the Church is taken (chapters 4–22)
Laurie encourages readers to embrace Revelation as a roadmap and to read, hear, and keep the words written in it (Revelation 1:3).
Signs of the Times: Are We Close?
Pastor Laurie points out global events—pandemics, unrest, economic strain—as signs pointing toward Jesus’ soon return. Jesus said these would be like birth pains: increasing in frequency and intensity as the end nears.
- The Rapture is described as the next event on the prophetic calendar.
- The Antichrist emerges soon after, during the seven-year Tribulation.
- Armageddon follows, culminating in Christ’s second coming.
Unlocking Revelation: More Than Just Prophecy
Revelation pulls back the curtain on the spiritual world—angels, demons, heaven, and hell. It’s not just about end-time headlines. It’s about Jesus:
- He’s the faithful witness (Rev. 1:5)
- He loves us and frees us from sin
- He holds the keys of death and hell
Laurie reminds us: “The primary purpose of Revelation isn’t to reveal the Antichrist—it’s to reveal Jesus Christ.”
Don’t Be Afraid—Be Ready
Some might be unsettled by topics like the Mark of the Beast, the Antichrist, or judgments. But Jesus tells us in Revelation 1:17, “Do not be afraid.” Why? Because He holds the future—and our salvation—in His hands.
Revelation calls us to live with urgency, hope, and holiness. If we believe Jesus is returning soon, it should motivate us to share our faith, examine our hearts, and encourage others.
“Bible prophecy is not given to inflate our brains but to enlarge our hearts.” – Greg Laurie
Be Prepared
Greg Laurie ends with a call to action: if you’re not sure about your relationship with Jesus, now’s the time to get right with God. Heaven is a prepared place for prepared people.
