What if the two witnesses are already alive and waiting in Jerusalem right now? The Bible talks about two men who will show up during the end times. They’ll speak the truth, challenge evil, and do miracles for 1,260 days. Nelson Walters digs into who these men might be, when they’ll appear, and what clues we have. Could they already be living in Jerusalem? Maybe. Let’s look at the timeline and what Scripture shows.
Revelation’s Timeline and the Two Witnesses
Nelson explains how the book of Revelation is divided into four main prophecies. The part about the two witnesses is found in Revelation 11, in the third section. That section focuses on key people in the end times—like the woman (Israel), the beast (Antichrist), Satan, and the 144,000. The two witnesses are listed right after a rebuilt temple is described.
This means their appearance likely comes after some sort of third temple is built in Jerusalem. There’s no temple right now, so it has to be a future one. This temple will be real—not just a symbol—and sacrifices will be offered again. The two witnesses show up right after that starts.
Clues About When They Arrive
The two witnesses don’t appear at the start of the 7-year tribulation. Instead, they show up around the middle of it. They wear sackcloth, which shows they’re mourning—maybe over sin or the destruction that’s about to happen. Their ministry lasts 1,260 days, which is a little less than the full second half of the tribulation.
After they finish their work, they’re killed. Their bodies lie in the streets of Jerusalem for 3.5 days. Then they’re raised from the dead and taken to heaven. All of this happens just before the seventh trumpet is sounded—which happens before Jesus returns and before the final judgments.
Possible Start Date: April 2, 2028?
Walters uses dates from the Hebrew calendar and some Bible math to figure out when this 1,260-day period might begin. If the tribulation ends in 2031, counting backward 1,260+3.5 days lands on April 2, 2028. That day happens to fall during a Jewish holiday when they read a passage in Malachi about a “messenger” who prepares the way for the Lord. That could point to Elijah.
So Who Are the Two Witnesses?
Some think the witnesses are Elijah and Moses, since both did miracles like the ones in Revelation. Others say it could be Elijah and Enoch, since those two never died. A few believe it might just be two unknown messianic Jews chosen at the right time. If that’s true, they’re probably already alive today—possibly even living in Jerusalem.
Walters doesn’t say for sure. His view is that they may appear suddenly, just like Moses and Elijah did during Jesus’ transfiguration.
So, Are the Two Witnesses Already Here?
If the witnesses are regular people, they’re already here. If they’re Elijah and Moses or Enoch, they may just appear out of nowhere when the time comes. Either way, Nelson Walters says we’re getting close. The pieces are moving into place.
