Has the Tribulation Started?

Has the Tribulation started? More than 40% of Christians in a YouTube poll believe the Tribulation has already started. That shocked Bible teacher Nelson Walters. He says many believers today are watching world events and wondering if the final seven years of human rule on Earth — the 70th Week of Daniel — has begun. Some church groups are even meeting to talk about it. But how do we know for sure? Walters walks through Scripture, common views, and what signs to watch for.

Has the Tribulation Started? Why People Think It’s Begun

In the poll, 42% said yes — the Tribulation has started. The rest, 58%, said no. Among those who said no:

  • About a third said they haven’t seen any major signs like wars, famine, or the two witnesses.
  • 16% said there can’t be a Tribulation without the rapture happening first.
  • 8% said they’re waiting for the Antichrist’s peace covenant to appear.

Walters says it’s good that people are thinking seriously about this, but our opinions must be based on the Bible, not feelings or news headlines.

How God Speaks About the End

A viewer said, “If Jesus wants us to know, He’ll tell us.” Walters partly agrees but says Jesus already told us how — through His Word. The Bible gives clear signs of how the Tribulation begins. We should watch and pray, not guess.

Jesus said“Watch therefore, for you do not know the day or the hour.” That’s not a call to ignore the world but to pay attention. Watching world events isn’t being paranoid — it’s obedience.

The Covenant That Starts It All

The key passage, Walters explains, is Daniel 9:27. It says a ruler will “strengthen a covenant with many for one seven.” That “seven” means seven years — a complete cycle in the Hebrew calendar.

This verse is the only one in Scripture that directly shows how the Tribulation begins. It doesn’t say a covenant is made but that it’s strengthened — a small but crucial detail. Many English Bibles translate this wrong. The Hebrew text shows the Antichrist strengthens an existing covenant, not signs a new one. So if people are waiting for a signing ceremony, they may miss what’s already happening.

When Does It Begin?

The seven-year period, called a shabua, always begins on the Feast of Trumpets — the Hebrew New Year, which falls in September or October. So it can’t start randomly in November or December. Events that happen later might be part of the covenant being strengthened, not its start.

Walters says this helps explain confusion about timing. Many expect a single big event to mark the start, but Scripture shows it could be a process — a strengthening over time.

What About the Temple or Sacrifices?

Another common belief is that the Tribulation can’t begin until sacrifices start again in a rebuilt temple. Walters says that’s not correct. Those events come later — during the Great Tribulation, the final three and a half years. Waiting for those signs before preparing is risky.

He compares it to Jesus’ parable of the ten virgins. Half were ready, half weren’t. When the bridegroom came, the unprepared were locked out. If believers wait until the middle of the Tribulation to get ready, it’ll be too late.

Why Early Preparation Matters

Many say they’ll know the Tribulation has begun when the abomination of desolation happens — when the Antichrist stands in the temple and declares himself God. But Walters says that’s the midpoint, not the start. Waiting until then means you’ve lost valuable time to prepare — both spiritually and practically.

He urges Christians to prepare now:

  • Spiritually: Stay close to Jesus and strengthen your faith.
  • Emotionally: Be ready to face hardship and persecution.
  • Physically: Store food, supplies, and plan for hard times.

Preparing early doesn’t hurt you if you’re wrong. But waiting could.

So, Has the Tribulation Started?

Walters believes the evidence points to yes — or at least that it may have. He points to recent UN agreements, peace deals, and digital ID laws that could match Daniel’s covenant being strengthened. He says these are not random political acts but signs that the world is aligning with biblical prophecy.

He doesn’t claim absolute certainty but says there’s “no harm and only upside” in preparing. If you’re right, you’re ready. If you’re wrong, you’re still closer to Jesus.

What About the Rapture?

Some viewers insist the pre-tribulation rapture must happen first. Walters says that view is popular but not clearly stated in Scripture. There’s no verse that says the rapture happens before the Tribulation. It might, but saying it must leads people to stop preparing.

His advice: hope for the best, prepare for the hardest. Preparing is like “rapture insurance” — you’re ready no matter when it happens.

The Real Goal

In the end, Walters says being right about the timeline isn’t what matters most. What matters is being right with Jesus. Whether the Tribulation has started or not, our focus should be on walking closely with Him.

As he closes, Walters reminds viewers: the safest path is to prepare now — spiritually, emotionally, and physically — and to keep watching as Jesus told us to.
