In his message “America and Armageddon,” Pastor Greg Laurie addresses one of the most urgent and often-asked questions in Bible prophecy: Where is the United States in the end times? Using Revelation chapters 15 and 16 as his foundation, Pastor Greg explores what the Bible says about the final judgment, the Battle of Armageddon, and how believers can be prepared for the return of Jesus Christ.
Though the subject is sobering, Pastor Greg’s goal is filled with hope—offering listeners both a warning and an invitation to place their trust in Jesus before it’s too late.
America and Armageddon – What Pastor Greg Laurie Wants You to Know
Judgment Is Coming—Are People Ready?
Pastor Greg explains that Revelation 15 introduces the final outpouring of God’s wrath. Seven angels carry seven plagues, signaling the conclusion of divine judgment on a world that has persistently rejected God. But he’s quick to point out: God takes no pleasure in judgment. As Ezekiel 33:11 says, “I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked.”
The real danger, Laurie warns, lies in hardened hearts. Every time someone hears the gospel and refuses to respond, their heart can grow more resistant. Eventually, they may stop listening altogether—not because God has stopped reaching out, but because they no longer want to hear.
A Heavenly Scene and a Picture of Faithfulness
In contrast to the coming judgment, Revelation 15 also gives a glimpse of heaven. There, believers who were persecuted and even martyred during the Tribulation stand victorious before the throne of God. They sing two songs: the Song of Moses, celebrating deliverance, and the Song of the Lamb, glorifying Jesus Christ for His ultimate victory.
These faithful men and women refused to take the mark of the beast and held onto their faith. Pastor Greg emphasizes that Christians today—before the Tribulation—will not go through that time of wrath. He supports this by pointing to biblical examples like Noah and Lot, who were rescued before judgment came.
Why Isn’t America in Bible Prophecy?
One of the biggest questions Pastor Greg addresses is: Why isn’t America—the most powerful nation on earth—mentioned in the Bible’s end-time events? He offers three possible explanations:
- America is devastated in a catastrophic attack. While not certain, he says it’s possible the U.S. could suffer from nuclear destruction, especially since many of the plagues described in Revelation resemble nuclear fallout.
- America simply declines. Like all great empires before us, the United States might lose its influence and be replaced by rising powers like China.
- A great revival takes place. Pastor Greg’s favorite scenario is one of spiritual awakening. Imagine if millions of Americans came to faith and were then raptured. The country’s infrastructure would collapse overnight. Government, military, and healthcare systems would be in chaos. That could explain why America isn’t a dominant player in the final chapters of human history.
Armageddon: The Final Battle
Revelation 16 paints a chilling picture of the final world conflict. The word “Armageddon” comes from the Valley of Megiddo in Israel—a real place where many historic battles have been fought. Napoleon once called it the most ideal battlefield on earth.
As described by Laurie, demonic spirits will influence world leaders to gather for battle against God. The Euphrates River will dry up to make way for a massive army from the East, possibly numbering 200 million soldiers. While Laurie doesn’t claim certainty, he notes that a country like China could theoretically field such an army, making this prophecy entirely plausible.
These are the darkest days the world has ever seen—and they’ll unfold once the Church has been removed from the earth.
Jesus Is Coming—Will People Be Ready?
Right in the middle of the chaos, Revelation 16:15 offers a message of hope from Jesus: “Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is the one who watches and keeps his garments.” Laurie explains that this verse speaks not of the Second Coming—but of the Rapture, when Jesus will return suddenly and without warning to take believers home.
For the unprepared, He will come like a thief. But for those who are watching and ready, He comes as a friend.
Pastor Greg cautions believers—especially older Christians—not to grow complacent. He encourages everyone to live each day as if it could be their last, because one day, it will be.
Heaven and Hell Are Both Real
Laurie makes it clear: Heaven is a prepared place for prepared people. Hell is for those who reject God. He quotes C.S. Lewis, who once said there are only two kinds of people: those who say to God, “Thy will be done,” and those to whom God says, “Thy will be done.”
God doesn’t force anyone into judgment—He honors their decision. If someone wants a life without God, He allows them to have an eternity without Him too.
The good news? Jesus is offering salvation right now. He died on the cross, rose again, and is ready to forgive anyone who will turn to Him. According to Romans 10:13, “Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
A Call to Respond
Pastor Greg closes his message with an invitation: If someone wants to know they’re ready for heaven—if they want to be forgiven and have peace with God—they can pray a simple prayer of faith.
Lord Jesus, I know that I’m a sinner.
But I believe You died on the cross for my sin and rose again.
I turn from my sin now and invite You into my life.
Be my Savior and my Lord.
Thank You for loving me and accepting me.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
The message of America and Armageddon is not meant to scare—it’s meant to prepare. The future is coming fast, and the only safe place is in a relationship with Jesus Christ.
